BIPOC Only Jam

Offering Description

The BIPOC Only JAM is a space is for POC dancers only.

What is POC?

‘People of Color’ or ‘People of the Global Majority’ are umbrella terms that generally encompass those who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous to the Americas, Latinx, Asian, or Pacific Islander. This can include “multiracial” people with partial (but not full) European ancestry.

These terms were created in our Western context to acknowledge the shared experiences of those who are not considered ‘white’ under the Eurocentric, settler-colonial worldview—experiences like racism, genocide and oppression under systems of white supremacy and colonialism that continue today.

I’m an immigrant- Am I POC?

Countries where the term ‘POC’ may not be commonly used, but where immigrants might be considered POC within the U.S. cultural context, are places where European settler-colonialism has shaped the social structure. If you are an immigrant with ancestry from a non-European country and still have questions, please come up and talk to the POC jam hosts.

If you are white-identified or an immigrant of entirely European ancestry and have questions, please reach out to wcciJAM organizers.

* Big thank you to Inertia DeWitt and Olivia Treviño, hosts of the Bay Area POC CI Jam, for articulating these parameters.
