Feldenkrias Session: Sensing, Shared Systems

Beginning in Feldenkrais based explorations we will find how the breath helps us notice, and let go of, unnecessary work. As we find ourselves doing less, we will practice feeling ourselves whole from head to tail and fingers to toes. Then we will bring this sense of wholeness into simple contact with others to notice how weight moves through structures. Then we will explore how to move and sense the floor through other peoples bodies and some different options for responding to weight and pressure that is added to our bodies. With the pathways of weight as guide we will practice finding different ways of supporting weight into and out of the floor in spirals and other asymmetries.

Kevin Dockery is a physical thinker, mover, musician, writer, and nature historian who uses performance to explore ideas of self, place, and fit in the cultural labyrinth that overlays our experience of life. He began studying contact improvisation, post-modern dance, and somatics in 2001 and has been teaching Feldenkrais since 2011. In 2017 he went back to school and earned an MFA in theater arts and an MA in performance studies at UC Davis where he focused on how we relate to place in the moment- what is life in each step.
